Studies underscore efficacy of water fluoridation

Children and adolescents in the U.S. with greater access to fluoridation were less likely to experience dental caries in a study published in June in the Journal of Dental Research.
For the article, “Water Fluoridation and Dental Caries in U.S. Children and Adolescents,” researchers evaluated associations between the availability of community water fluoridation and dental caries experience in children and adolescents.

Policies aim to limit youth use of tobacco and nicotine products

San Francisco voters backed a measure to ban flavored nicotine products in June, while in May the Illinois legislature backed a bill to raise the legal age for purchasing tobacco and nicotine products form 18 to 21 statewide.

CDHC who started nonprofit recognized with research award

Most dentists would find it unusual to see an abscess a day in their patient population. For MiQuel McRae, a Community Dental Health Coordinator, it's endemic to the population she serves, a population that she profiled in the Third Annual El Rio Research Fair in May. There, Ms. McRae received the Carlos A. Flores, M.D. Create Tomorrow Award, which is named in honor of Dr. Flores, a late El Rio board member and pediatrician and neonatologist.

Annual summit on antimicrobial stewardship in July
